Project Reveal | Long Lake Master Bedroom Remodel

Remodels are always so rewarding, and what’s better than a Minnesota Lakes Area Master Suite? This space had such good bones. Tall ceilings, a cozy reading nook, and amazing windows that showcase the beautiful lake view. We loved pulling together the finishings and furnishings that a space like this deserves!

The existing finishes in the space were just, dark. We worked with a local custom cabinetry maker to design a white washed oak vanity that was functional and beautiful. The inset slab drawer fronts but a fresh twist on the traditional feel in the space. We complimented the white washed oak cabinetry and crisp white countertops with aged bronze hardware + fixtures that add just the perfect balance of contrast in the space.

The tile within this space makes one of the biggest impacts. We wanted to incorporate a timeless but durable option. We selected a marble-look porcelain tile for the shower walls, flooring and main bathroom flooring. The new white washed oak hardwoods transition from the bathroom to the master bedroom to replace the existing carpet.

Our clients were totally on board with special millwork details in both the bedroom + bathroom. The traditional wainscoting compliments the tall ceilings and draws the eye upwards. To make the bedroom feel a bit more special, we opted for Benjamin Moore Stonington Grey paint on all of the walls. The soft grey paired with the Benjamin Moore Decorators White Trim makes for a fresh feel through out the space.

We took advantage of the tall ceilings and anchored the most stunning white branch chandelier with a four post bed. The bench, lamps and side table bring in a bit of texture and warmth within the space. We selected white linen bedding to create softness and comfort.

For the sitting corner, we wanted it to feel elegant but casual. The armchairs are the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee while taking in the surrounding lake views year around.

Project Reveal | River Road Remodel Part 3

We are thrilled to be sharing the third and final reveal of our River Road Remodel. We had so much fun pulling every inch of this home together from start to finish. Check out Part 1 and Part 2 of our Project Reveal if you haven’t already!

While our River Road Remodel was brought down to the studs in a majority of the spaces, there were still a few existing nooks that allowed for creative design moments like the book shelf and bench above. Our client actually brought a similar concept to the table one meeting. We worked together to create a one of a kind design that felt cohesive with the rest of the spaces in the home. For a family of book lovers, this spot is one of their favorites.

From the start of this project, we knew this grand foyer deserved the perfect lighting fixture. We mirrored the iron spindles on the railing with an updated and approachable aged iron chandelier. The main purpose of the upper level loft was for a fun space for the kids to play and read together. We used Benjamin Moore Tate Olive on the cabinetry, accented with leather and brass pulls. We also had fun mixing up the patterns on the built in benches with a custom upholstered cushion and pillows.

When it came to the kids bedrooms we wanted to create spaces that were youthful but would also grow with them for years to come. Durability was also a huge factor in the shared boys bathroom. We wrapped the walls in a navy blue subway tile, paired with a hex flooring tile and stained vanity. We had fun mixing metals with stainless and brass fixtures.

We also took a mixed metals approach in the girl’s bathroom, pairing the Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter vanity with the perfectly pink patterned Rebecca Atwood wallpaper. We mirrored the finish on the vanity with the unique but timeless taupe subway tile on the shower surround. We went with a soft but feminine feel and tied the girls bathroom in when considering the patterns and finishes in her adjacent bedroom.

Overall, we could not be more proud of our River Road Remodel. This home is a true testament to collaboration and trust between the homeowners and their build+ design team. See all the spaces (and some jaw dropping before/afters) in the Summer issue of Inspired Home Magazine.

Project Reveal | River Road Remodel Part 2

We had so much fun sharing Part 1 of our River Road Remodel in honor of Inspired Home Magazines Summer issue we’re sharing even more! This remodel was taken down completely to the studs and each detail was put back into place with carefully thought out design.

One of the first places we maximized style + function for a busy family was in the mudroom. We made sure we had ample locker space, hooks and a highly functional drop zone. I always recommend clients keep the space below the locker benches open - this makes it easy for shoe storage and avoids the need to clean out muddy drawers. The bench top was finished in a durable white washed oak, paired with porcelain tile flooring.

The powder bathroom is a space where we were really able to play up pattern and have some fun with this Schumacher wallpaper. We used a Cambria countertop with a custom designed backsplash to compliment the white washed oak vanity.

We were really able to play up the texture of the furnishings of the master bedroom. We grounded the space with a cozy woven wool rug complimented by an ivory performance upholstery bed. The lush green velvet chairs add a pop of vintage-feel that contrasts the modern leather bench at the foot of the bed.

Our clients immediately fell in love with Cambria countertops for the master bathroom upon first laying eyes on them in the showroom. The countertops were the start of the entire bathroom concept. We kept the finishes cool in a polished nickel to compliment the black custom vanity. The vintage feeling hardware pops against the Benjamin Moore Black Beauty paint color. There are subtle but beautiful details in the mirrors, wall sconces and cross handle faucets.

In order to really maximize functionality for this busy family, there is a full laundry room on both the upper level and main level of the home. We played up the pattern and color in the upper level laundry room since it accommodates the adjacent children’s rooms. One feature our clients love is the custom laundry basket storage.

Check out the link below for some of our favorite Target brand towels. The quality and price point can’t be beat! Also, if you haven’t tried The Laundress detergent, you are missing out.

The lower level of this home was made for enjoying and entertaining. We not only incorporated an under-the-stairs wine cellar, but these clients also opted for a built-in kegerator. We wanted to keep the finishes in this space fun and easy. The bar cabinetry was completed in a white washed oak, complimented with a grey ceramic subway tile backsplash. When we saw these pendants at market, we instantly knew they were made for this space.

The metal cabinetry detail in the wine cellar is complimented by the perfect vintage-feeling wall sconce. We lovingly named this space in the home the “wine cellar foyer” as it is perfectly nested inside the climate controlled space for easy wine pouring. The wine cellar itself is wrapped in a new but old feeling white painted brick and flanked each wall with metal wine racks.

The lower level powder bathroom boasts a moodier feel than the rest of the home, with charcoal colored grass cloth wallpaper, soft lanterns and a sleek custom vanity top. We added a white washed oak floating vanity shelf to keep the space feeling special but cohesive with the rest of the spaces.

Believe it or not, there are even more stunning spaces in this home we have yet to share with you. Check back for part 3 of our series of reveals! See all the spaces (and some jaw dropping before/afters) in the Summer issue of Inspired Home Magazine.

Project Reveal | River Road Remodel

In honor of Inspired Home Magazines Summer issue featuring our River Road Remodel, we’re sharing some of our favorite spaces. This remodel was taken down completely to the studs and each detail was put back into place with carefully thought out design.

For a busy family, the main goal of this space was durability and function. We utilized these outdoor grade counter stools at the island to bring in just a slight contrast and texture against the white washed oak island. The perimeter cabinetry was painted in Benjamin Moores Edgecomb Grey for a classic and timeless feel against the Benjamin Moore Decorators White walls. To stick with the timeless but updated feel, we incorporated a square zellige tile to compliment the Cambria Brittanica quartz tops.

We worked closely with the project contractors of Samson Construction to bring in new but classic feeling millwork through out the main level. We complimented the white brick painted fireplace with a custom wood mantle, beams & tongue and groove paneling on the ceiling. The white washed oak island finish was tied in behind the open shelving flanking each side of the fireplace. We also incorporated a board & batten detail in the foyer. We wanted to keep the furnishings beautiful, but casual in the formal foyer area so they were welcoming for all guest.

When it came to the furnishings, we utilized performance upholstery & played up the patterns to make the spaces feel warm and inviting. We also utilized a super durable low pile wool rug for easy clean up and maintenance.

One of our favorite tricks of the trade? Utilizing a Samson Frame TV above the fireplace to camouflage as artwork. The TV quality and sound is husband approved & creates a more inviting atmosphere.

We kept the pattern play going with the tile in the main floor laundry room, and tied in the Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Grey paint from the kitchen perimeter. We also opted for a brass finish on the hardware to create some contrast.

The office ties in with the rest of the home, but with a slightly more masculine feel. The homeowner wanted to make sure that this space was both functional and aesthetically pleasing as it’s right off the main foyer. We opted for a combination of open and closed cabinetry painted in Benjamin Moore Kendall Charcoal, mixed wood tones, and a subtle pop of leather. The wood tops are white washed oak, tying in with the rest of the home. For styling the shelves, we mixed in the homeowners existing items with new.

We kept the dining room furnishings light and bright to compliment the gorgeous windows that pour the natural light in. A white washed oak dining table is complimented by white painted (easily wipeable) dining chairs. An outdoor grade area rug grounds the space.

The butler’s pantry is truly the heart of this home. The finishes compliment the kitchen but also have a more casual and unique feel, making this space stand out on its own.

This home was a true labor of love between the architect, builder, homeowners and our design team. The results were truly stunning and we can’t wait to share more details in parts 2 and 3 of our reveal! See all the spaces (and some jaw dropping before/afters) in the Summer issue of Inspired Home Magazine.

Styling | Mother's Day Brunch

IMG_8528.jpg

Spring has finally sprung which means Mother’s Day is right around the corner. In order to celebrate, I styled a Mother’s Day brunch to give you some entertaining inspiration.

I love setting up a good table scape. Honestly, setting the table is more of my specialty when it comes to hosting than the actually cooking part. I’m thankful for amazingly talented local friends & businesses who offer amazing catering options. I’ve also learned that there are options for every size of gathering - you don’t necessarily have to order a large quantity when you want to skip the cooking.

IMG_8500.jpg

If you live in the Fargo area, you’ve likely experienced the amazing Nichole’s Fine Pastries. I ordered a variety of pastries - the chocolate scones are to die for - and a quiche that was equally delicious and beautiful. For desert, I enlisted the help of the amazing Cakes By Althea to bake a delicious vanilla cake with lemon curd filling and buttercream frosting.

When it comes to the actual table scape, I love to use layers. I went with a floral floral table cloth in the most beautiful blush and navy tones from McGee & Co. topped with a navy and white runner.

As much as I love layers, I equally love texture. I complimented our woven dining chairs - (outdoor grade, hello durability!) - with beautiful woven chargers from Brooke & Lou. These help make the table scape feel a little more elevated with out being too formal.

I pulled out a few wooden boards to serve the quiche and pastries. This adds some warmth to the table and is also a super functional way to serve these items. I chose a simple white cake plate.

IMG_8495.jpg

I love a good linen napkin, but I recently found the most beautiful paper source for party supplies, Coterie. Who doesn’t love beautiful and easy clean up?! I wrapped the napkins in a simple yarn. I chose brass cutlery which adds a fun but elevated feel to the table.

My vintage etched water glasses & pitcher are my favorite items to use when hosting. These were a wedding gift from my mom, so they also have special meaning to them & fit perfectly for our celebratory brunch.

IMG_8506.jpg

The final touches to every good table scape are of course florals. I do love arranging my own florals, but of course when it comes to time I love enlisting the help of the talented local Love Always Floral. Their “designers choice” option is my favorite, you’re always bound to get a fresh and fun floral arrangement. To tie together the brass, I went with brass candle sticks and blush pink tapers for a fun feminine feel.

IMG_8518.jpg

Other than being my first phone call for anything in life - some may already know my mom, Jane - plays a role behind the scenes of Lindsey Grace Interiors. She successfully ran her own company along my dad for many years. Growing up I had a front row seat at everything it takes to run a business. So, while we are busy creating - my mom helps with the book keeping and other business necessities. I would not be where I am today without her love, guidance and support.

Moms are truly the best. So gather your momma friends, your mom & grandmother, and enjoy a special spring brunch together!

Project Reveal | Lindsey's Kitchen Remodel

As a designer, I am constantly reimagining spaces. Of course, the spaces I live in each day are at the top of the list. When tackling our own kitchen remodel I wanted the space to reflect our personal style, and also work for the way we live.

IMG_8279.jpg

Having lived in our home for three years before remodelling the main kitchen, we were able to get a good feel for how we wanted the space to function for us. Besides the dated aesthetic, the existing layout worked for our needs.

This is partially the reason why we waited three years to remodel - along with a growing business that operated our of our home, several client projects, and like most - budget constraints. Although we did make some minor changes (different counter stools, hello!) we left our kitchen mostly untouched while we updated the rest of our home.

IMG_8098.jpg
IMG_8128.jpg

The top of the priority list for functionality was swapping out the existing tall pantry built-in for a small locker system. Even with a small foot print, the back entry way of our home definitely see’s the most traffic. I knew that allocating our pantry storage to a less central area of the kitchen would allow us space for storage of shoes, bags and coats.

IMG_8289.jpg

When it came to the finishes, I mostly had a solid idea of what I wanted. One thing I had a difficult time deciding on was hardware and lighting finishes. I love the look of mixed metals. They make a space more interesting and approachable. I decided that I would keep the hardware and lighting finishes cohesive through out the space, and chose an aged brass for a more feminine and classic feel.

IMG_8257.jpg

Speaking of finishes, I went with a polished nickel bridge faucet and white cast iron sink. The polished nickel finish is both timeless and durable. Surprisingly, my husband’s one request when we started the remodel was a farmhouse sink. We both love the classic look and the large size makes it super functional.

IMG_8150.jpg

One question I get asked frequently, when clients bring me in for remodels, is if I’ll consider the rest of the home when making finish selections. This is always a priority and I knew I didn’t want to introduce a new stain in this space. Keeping with the character of our home and the existing finishes, I chose a dark stained island and bench top. The perimeter kitchen cabinetry is BM Revere Pewter with white quartz countertops.

IMG_8277.jpg

Along with adding hooks by the entry way, I also wanted to reconfigure our existing island. We needed not only an updated aesthetic, but also a durable and easy space for friends and family to gather. I ended up removing one base cabinet from the existing design and incorporated open shelving. This created enough space for three outdoor grade counter stools.

IMG_8263.jpg
IMG_8158.jpg

I also decided to update our appliances and went with a panel front fridge and dishwasher. I love the classic look of the panel, and again bringing in the durability factor these were on the top of my list. I chose a stainless range, which keeps the space looking timeless.

When it came to flooring I chose a budget friendly and durable grouted luxury vinyl tile. The budget savings ultimately when right back into the backsplash which is a hand-made clay tile. The install and labor of this material also takes a bit more attention than other tiles, but the timeless and organic feel that it brings to the space was worth it.

With an aesthetic that reflects our style and functionality that works for us, we absolutely love living in our new space!
